Ysl Background

backgroundBefore he became a couturier, Yves Saint Laurent considered working as a costume designer. He studied under Rene Jeanmarie and worked for YSL from 1997 to 1999. He also worked as an art director and with film directors including Jean-loup Sieff. However, his dream of becoming a couturier was thwarted by an illness. He was only thirty when he sold the company to Sanofi in 1993 and chose to become a theater costume designer instead.

While many rap artists focus on their music, YSL has become one of the world’s most influential and successful brands. Its ethos has spawned numerous artists, including Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, and Vincent Cassel. Its fashion shows are as jetset as its models, and it is no surprise that their venues are equally prestigious. The label has also partnered with some of the world’s biggest brands, including Versace, Chanel, and Prada.
