The town of Battle Ground has a rich history and is a popular tourist destination. The area was named after the early settlers, who had little formal schooling. The new settlers wanted to provide their children with an education, so they established schools around the main rivers. The first settlement was located near Maple Grove, but later, a man named John Tuke moved north to the center of Clark County. He staked a claim near Tukes Mountain and began farming.
